Digital Marketing News Roundup – October 29, 2021

Digital Roundup - A collection of images. The week of October 25th started out a little slow in the digital marketing world, but it certainly picked up towards the end of the week. Here are some items of note …

Google announced a new feature that will make it easier for people under 18 years of age or their parents to remove images from Google Search. This is a great move and will help people remove embarrassing images that could affect their online reputation. The process is rather straightforward, which is a good thing.

Facebook announced on Thursday that their new company name is “Meta.” The official announcement came from CEO Mark Zuckerberg at the annual Connect Conference. This seems to be similar to the move Google made in 2015 when it formed a parent company called Alphabet to hold various Google-owned companies. We don’t anticipate any major changes right away, but this move could usher in some other reorganizations at the social media giant.

Have you checked out Brave search? This new, upstart, search engine touts privacy among its many benefits. A couple of weeks ago, Brave started making its own search engine the default in their browser in place of Google. This week, Brave shared some information about what they use in their search algorithm. One item of note: they use click data from search results as a ranking factor. Google has long denied using click data as a ranking signal, saying it’s not a very reliable way to determine relevancy. Brave joins a few other newer players in the search space looking to take market share from Google, including DuckDuckGo and You.com (currently in private beta).
